Abstract

This paper explores the profound influence of Indian folk traditions on contemporary poetry, highlighting how these rich cultural practices shape thematic concerns, stylistic choices, and the overall narrative framework of modern poetic expressions. Indian folk traditions encompass a diverse array of oral forms, including folk songs, stories, and rituals that reflect the lived experiences and cultural identities of various communities. The dynamic nature of these traditions allows contemporary poets to draw upon their deep reservoirs of meaning, adapting and reinterpreting them to resonate with present-day realities. The use of regional dialects and languages in contemporary poetry is a significant manifestation of this influence, as poets seek to honor their linguistic heritage and enhance accessibility for wider audiences. Additionally, the incorporation of folk narratives provides a powerful lens through which poets can explore themes such as love, loss, and social justice, often addressing contemporary socio-political issues while grounding their work in traditional storytelling techniques.
