When chemical species have varying diffusion constants in reaction-diffusion systems, Turing patterns may be seen. The effects of noise on Turing patterns have been the subject of several studies in recent years. These studies have demonstrated that the parameter regimes for which stochastic Turing patterns are observed can be larger than those predicted by deterministic models, which describe species concentrations using partial differential equations.
