Abstract

The Indian freedom struggle, spanning over two centuries, was marked by the active participation of both men and women in various capacities. While men have often been celebrated for their contributions, the crucial role played by women is frequently overlooked. This paper delves into the historical accounts of women’s involvement in the Indian freedom movement, highlighting their political, social, and revolutionary efforts. Women such as Sarojini Naidu, Rani Lakshmi Bai, Begum Hazrat Mahal, and Kasturba Gandhi were pivotal in organizing protests, leading armed rebellions, and fostering mass mobilization. The study further explores how women's participation was not just limited to elite individuals but also extended to grassroots leaders and everyday women who became symbols of resilience. Through this research, an attempt is made to re-evaluate the role of women, analyze their motivations, and understand their contributions in shaping modern India.
