The increasing frequency of fire-related disasters has heightened the need for robust fire safety standards and an effective legal framework to protect lives, property, and the environment. This paper provides an in-depth analysis of fire safety standards and regulations at both the national and international levels. It explores the historical development of fire safety laws, technological advancements, and the role of various international organizations in shaping global fire safety standards. The paper also examines fire safety laws in India, focusing on the National Building Code of India (NBC), the Factories Act, and the Fire and Emergency Services Act. Furthermore, it addresses the legal obligations of property owners and employers, and the legal consequences of non-compliance. The paper highlights challenges in fire safety enforcement, such as lack of awareness, inadequate training, and resource constraints. By analyzing global case studies and fire disasters, the study demonstrates the need for more stringent legal frameworks and better enforcement mechanisms. The paper concludes with a set of recommendations for enhancing fire safety standards, improving legal compliance, and promoting greater public awareness.
