Abstract

The Chola dynasty, particularly under the reign of Raja Raja Chola I (985–1014 CE), represents a pivotal chapter in Indian history characterized by extensive trade networks and vibrant cultural exchanges. This study explores the multifaceted legacy of the Chola dynasty, focusing on how Raja Raja Chola's initiatives transformed the socio-economic and cultural landscape of South India and beyond. Raja Raja Chola’s military conquests significantly expanded the Chola territories, establishing dominance over crucial maritime trade routes in the Indian Ocean. This strategic control facilitated trade with regions as far-reaching as Southeast Asia, enhancing economic prosperity through the exchange of goods such as spices, textiles, and precious metals. The flourishing trade networks not only enriched the Chola economy but also fostered interactions among diverse cultures, leading to significant cultural exchanges.
