Abstract

The National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020) is a path-breaking document in the history of Indian education. One of its most important elements is the establishment of multi-disciplinary education at all levels, including higher secondary education. The present study aims to explore the attitude of higher secondary school teachers about multidisciplinary education suggested by NEP 2020. This study employed descriptive survey approach. The sample of 120 higher secondary school teachers was recruited from government and private schools in Delhi by using purposive selection approach. The research instrument was a self-developed questionnaire of 30 items (Likert scale). The tool was confirmed to be reliable with Cronbach Alpha of 0.84. The study revealed that most teachers (68.3%) had a positive impression of the idea of multimodal education. But it also revealed major issues in the areas of teacher preparation, infrastructure and curriculum design. The survey also revealed significant disparities in perception based on gender, kind of school and years of teaching experience. The findings indicate that while teachers are mostly supportive of the concept of NEP 2020, there is an immediate need for structured training and capacity building activities to translate policy into practice.
