TRIPURA’S EVOLVING ROLE AS THE GATEWAY TO NORTHEAST INDIA: CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES

Abstract

Tripura, a landlocked state in Northeast India, is becoming an essential conduit for regional trade and communication, especially with Bangladesh. Its strategic location, infrastructural advancements, and progressive trade regulations establish it as a crucial connection between mainland India and Southeast Asia. Nonetheless, despite its promise, certain constraints impede its complete evolution as a regional commercial powerhouse. This article analyses the economic and geopolitical importance of Tripura, investigates the obstacles hindering its development, and identifies the potential for improved connectivity and commerce. This study utilises secondary data analysis to elucidate Tripura's infrastructural development, trade agreements, and policy frameworks while proposing recommendations for future advancement.
