Efficacy of Traditional Medicine in Accordance with Modern Scientific System

Abstract

Traditional medicine is a term that refers to practises, approaches, knowledge, and beliefs regarding health care that involve the use of medicines derived from plants, animals, and minerals as well as spiritual therapies, manual techniques, and exercises. These can be used singularly or in combination to treat, diagnose, and prevent illnesses or to maintain well-being. Traditional medicine in Cameroon has seen a surge in popularity over the past decade, in part as a response to the country's persistently unstable economic status, which has persisted for decades. The high cost of drugs and an increase in drug resistance to common diseases like malaria, bacterial infections, and other sexually transmitted diseases have caused a shift in the therapeutic approach towards alternative traditional medicine as an option for the concerted search for new chemical entities (NCE).
