Abstract

The Information Technology (IT) sector has emerged as one of India's most significant contributors to economic growth and employment generation. Despite substantial progress in workforce participation, women continue to face barriers in attaining senior leadership and decision-making positions. These invisible barriers, commonly referred to as the "glass ceiling," restrict career advancement opportunities for women despite their qualifications and professional achievements. This study examines the challenges and opportunities faced by women in the Indian IT sector, focusing on gender bias, organizational culture, work-life balance, leadership representation, and career development. The paper also explores organizational initiatives that promote gender inclusion and women's leadership. The findings suggest that while the Indian IT industry has made considerable progress in supporting women professionals, persistent structural and cultural barriers continue to limit their advancement. The study recommends strategic interventions to enhance gender equality and leadership opportunities within the sector.
