Abstract

The influence of non-state actors on international security has become a critical area of study in contemporary global relations. This paper examines the diverse roles that non state actors—including non-governmental organizations (NGOs), multinational corporations, terrorist groups, and transnational advocacy networks—play in shaping security dynamics across the globe. With the advent of globalization and technological advancements, these actors have gained significant power and influence, often surpassing traditional state mechanisms in various aspects of security. Non-state actors can undermine state authority, challenge national sovereignty, and complicate traditional security paradigms. For example, terrorist organizations like ISIS and Al-Qaeda have shown how non-state entities can orchestrate attacks with global ramifications, forcing states to adapt their security strategies. Conversely, NGOs and advocacy groups play essential roles in humanitarian efforts and the promotion of international norms, influencing public opinion and pressuring governments to act on pressing global issues such as human rights and environmental protection.
