Abstract

The black woman as the saying goes is indeed “strong beyond all definitions.” Often used and abused by her husband, and almost always without resources, suffering the oppression both of racist and sexist, she is still the lifeline of her family. She acts as glue to keep her family intact, always painstakingly trying a way out to survive. She always serves as the pinboard for the blacks to pin their blame on and even so she has survived the oddest of times. Alice Walker, as a spokesperson for the black women, tries to portray through her novels, the realistic picture of the struggles faced by them.
