Abstract

Abstract: India's rivers actually speak for both natural life and the populace, serving as both their vital conduits. The Indian people's life depends heavily on the rivers. The river systems provide us with affordable transportation, electricity, drinkable water, irrigation, and a means of subsistence for our growing population. Several of India's largest cities are located along the banks of revered rivers. It is imperative that river water be managed properly right now. Indian farming is primarily depends on the monsoon, which is erratic by nature. As a result, water logging in some areas and a severe lack of irrigation in others are problems. Drought-related agricultural damage and the poor drainage system could be controlled. Diminishing and dwindling most critical resource issues of the 21st century. The core objectives of the paper are to study issues and challenges in interlinking of rivers in India and to study environmental impact of Inter-River Linking Project (IRL). At the backdrop of this, the present paper is an attempt to study issues and challenges in interlinking of rivers in India from the point of view of society at large.
