Abstract
its effects on rural development. A combination of factors which involves absence of employment opportunities, infrastructural inadequacy, declining agricultural productivity and the need to pursue better education and living standards have been driving the rural youth towards urban migration. Even though migration gives individuals a chance to get access to improved economic prospects and training, it on the other hand results in shortage of labor, imbalances in population and abandonment of traditional farming practices in rural areas. The study is a qualitative one, based on secondary sources, including scholarly sources, policy reports, and case studies, to address the complex interaction between rural sustainability and migration. It also points out that youth migration is a major challenge to the rural economies because of the decreased availability of productive workforce and deterioration of the local knowledge systems. It, however, also recognizes new prospects like inflows of remittances, skill transfer and the possibility of entrepreneurship and economic diversification in the rural areas. The results indicate that migration is not only an issue but a dynamic process that can bring about changes in rural area in case it is managed properly. Rural education, skill building, infrastructure development as well as the ability to provide sustainable livelihood opportunities are critical to retain the youth and utilize their potential. The research concludes that a moderate way of approaching the subject that involves combining migration with rural development strategies is the key to providing sustainable and inclusive growth.
