Empowering Women Farmers: The Key to Enhancing Food Security and Nutrition in Rural Communities
Abstract
Women farmers play a pivotal role in agricultural production and rural development, yet they face systemic barriers that limit their full potential. Empowering women in agriculture is critical to enhancing food security and nutrition, particularly in rural communities where they are central to household food systems. This paper examines the multifaceted contributions of women farmers, explores the challenges they encounter—such as limited access to land, credit, education, and technology—and highlights strategies for their empowerment. By fostering gender-inclusive agricultural policies, strengthening women's access to resources, and promoting education and training, rural communities can achieve sustainable agricultural growth, improved nutrition, and poverty reduction. Empowering women farmers is not only a moral imperative but also a practical strategy for addressing global food security challenges.
