THE RIGHT TO FOOD OF SCHOOL GOING CHILDREN: A STUDY OF ASSAM, INDIA
Abstract
Nutrition plays a key role in providing efficient strength to the school going children. In India school going children face the burden of being undernourished which heavily impacts their quality of life. The role of the Government is formidable in assuring the school going children especially in rural and semi-urban areas have adequate access to their right to food. In Assam, the mid-day meal situation is very poor in certain rural areas. Students face serious problems due to lag of fulfilling the needed amount of nutrition to have a sound mind in a sound body. The age of 6-14 years is very crucial in the all round development of the child. If this nutritional deficit is not checked on correct time, it can become home to many diseases. Right to food is a fundamental human right and also forms part of the directive principles of the state policy of our Indian Constitution.
