A Study of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020: Inclusive Education for Differently Abled Children
Abstract
The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 represents a transformative reform in the Indian education system with a strong emphasis on equity, accessibility, and inclusion. One of the major objectives of the policy is to ensure that children with disabilities and differently abled learners receive equal educational opportunities within mainstream schools. The policy recognizes education as a fundamental right and proposes several strategies for promoting inclusive education through accessible infrastructure, teacher training, assistive technologies, flexible curriculum, and community participation. This research paper reviews the provisions of NEP 2020 concerning inclusive education for differently abled children and examines the role of Gram Panchayats in implementing educational reforms at the grassroots level. The paper also discusses challenges such as lack of infrastructure, insufficient trained teachers, social stigma, and digital inequality. Furthermore, it highlights the significance of local governance institutions, especially Gram Panchayats, in ensuring community participation, school accessibility, and monitoring inclusive educational practices in rural India. The study concludes that NEP 2020 has the potential to create a more inclusive educational environment if effectively implemented through collaboration among schools, teachers, parents, communities, and local self-governance institutions.
