Abstract

The present paper discusses Gandhi ji’s arrival in South Africa. In doing so, we have tried to bring out the interesting aspects of his personality which at times were not truly congruent to what the world saw in him as the leader of the masses. Needless to say, Gandhi transformed from a west educated barrister into a leader of the masses on his own terms and in his own time. Admittedly, this entire journey was not at all seamless and the various events of his life acted as milestones in his journey or rather the journey of the Nation with him. It was the Gandhian methods of mass movements such as Satyagraha which firmly connected two distant lands India and South Africa.
