Abstract

The shipping and logistics industry, a vital component of global trade, is increasingly focused on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to achieve sustainable practices. This review examines the role of CSR in promoting environmental, social, and economic sustainability within the industry. As shipping and logistics companies face growing pressure to reduce their environmental impact, CSR initiatives have become essential in addressing issues such as carbon emissions, waste management, and resource consumption. The adoption of green technologies, fuel-efficient operations, and eco-friendly packaging are among the strategies being implemented to reduce the industry's carbon footprint. Furthermore, CSR in the shipping and logistics sector extends beyond environmental concerns to include fair labor practices, community engagement, and transparent governance. Companies are now expected to ensure ethical working conditions, promote diversity and inclusion, and contribute positively to the communities they operate in. However, the adoption of sustainable practices through CSR is not without challenges. Regulatory compliance, increased operational costs, and the complexity of aligning global supply chains with CSR goals often hinder progress. This review explores the opportunities and barriers faced by the industry in its pursuit of sustainability through CSR. It highlights how companies that successfully integrate CSR into their core business strategies not only enhance their reputation and competitiveness but also contribute to a more sustainable future for the shipping and logistics industry.
