AEROBICS: A WAY TO IMPROVE PHYSICAL FITNESS IN HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS

Abstract

The aim of this study was to find out whether aerobics a way to improve physical fitness in high school girls. In order to achieve this purpose, 20 high school girls, in the age group between 14 and 17 years were randomly selected from Municipal High School, Proddatur Andhra Pradesh. The initial performance in selected physical fitness variables, anaerobic power, speed and explosive power of every subject was recorded. The selected subjects were provided with six weeks aerobics consisting of different movements with suitable repetitions for a period of 45 minutes in a day, consisting of warm up, cardiovascular conditioning, muscular strength and conditioning, cool down. Analysis of improvement was checked through ‘t’ test and results showed explosive power, improved from pre test level mean of 167.1 to 176.9 cms anaerobic power pre test mean value of 384.65 to 398.75 watts at post test level and speed from a pre test level of mean 4.46 to 4.23 secs. The statistical analysis proved that the improvement of physical fitness variables selected were significant. It was concluded that aerobics would significantly improve physical fitness components, such as, anaerobic power, speed and explosive power of high school girls.
