Comparative Anti- diabetic studies and Molecular docking of Amorphophallus paeoniifolius (Dennst.) Nicolson and Colocasia esculenta (L.) Schott
Abstract
In the present investigation anti – diabetic activity of ethanol extract of Amorphophallus paeoniifolius and Colocasia esculenta was evaluated. The anti – diabetic activity of ethanol extract of Amorphophallus paeoniifolius and Colocasia esculenta was evaluated by Alpha- amylase inhibition assay and Alpha glucosidase inhibition assay.In these tuber crops, Alpha amylase activity with IC50 value of standard is 0.69216±0.314, IC50 of Amorphophallus paeoniifolius is 1.5088±0.114, IC50 of Colacasia esculenta is 3.7537±0.112 and Alpha glucosidase activity with IC50 of standard is 1.56401±0.211 µg/ml, IC50 of Amorphophallus paeoniifolius is 3.657±0.144 µg/ml, IC50 of Colacasia esculenta is 4.461±0.144 µg/ml. In conclusion, from the results of present study it is confirmed that anti – diabetic activity of ethanol extract of Amorphophallus paeoniifolius may contribute anti- diabetic potential.Molecular docking is a computational method used to predict the preferred orientation of one molecule (ligand) to another molecule (protein or receptor) when they are bound together. In the context of tubers, molecular docking can be used to study the interactions between bioactive compounds and proteins involved in various biological processes. Betulinic acid, lupeol, quercetin glycoside, stigmasterol are the most important anti – diabetic compounds in Amorphophallus paeoniifolius.
