EFFECT OF LOCUS OF CONTROL ON EMOTIONAL MATURITY OF ADOLESCENTS

Abstract

Research Background: Locus of control refers to an individual’s awareness about the underlying main causes of events in person’s life. The level of locus of control is effect on emotional maturity of individuals. According to, Kaplan and Baran (1976) an emotionally mature person has the capacity to make effective adjustment with himself, with family members, with peers in school or college, with fellows at work, in life and society. So, in this study was found out the effect of locus of control on emotional maturity of adolescents’. Objectives: The study objective was, to find out the effect of locus of control on emotional maturity among the adolescents of internal and external locus of control as well as to study the significance difference in emotional maturity among the male and female adolescents. Procedure: In the present study, one hundred twenty samples had been selected from the adolescents. Out of this sample, sixty adolescents were selected from internal locus of control (30 male and 30 female adolescents) and same way sixty adolescents were selected from external locus of control (30 female and 30 female adolescents). The purposive sampling technique had been used for the selection of the samples. The sample age range was between 18 and 20 years. This study Locus of Control Scale developed by Dr. N. Hasnain, and Emotional Maturity Scale is developed by Yashvir Singh and Mahesh Bhargava had been used. Conclusions: It is concluded that, the adolescents of internal locus of control have found high emotional maturity than adolescents of external locus of control. The male and female adolescents have found equal on their emotional maturity. Other hand side, the male and female adolescents of internal locus of control as well as male and female adolescents of external locus of control have found equal on their emotional maturity. Application: The present study findings can be beneficial and helpful for counselors, society member, psychologists to understanding impact of locus of control and gender difference on emotional maturity of individuals. Also, these study findings can be beneficial for national and international research scholars.
